Acute toxicity test of zebrafish embryos (OECD TG 236)
The use of zebrafish embryos as an alternative to toxicity detection has been practiced in EU countries for many years, and several related toxicity testing methods have been published (such as OECD-committed TG236 and TG234). This platform, in order to promote alternatives to animal testing (the 3R principle) and assist governments in providing effective biodetection methods for various toxic substances related to daily life (such as those affecting the environment, agricultural products, and wastewater), has specifically added zebrafish embryo toxicity detection services. This service is based on the OECD-committed standard test method – TG 236 – and is used to test the toxicity of chemicals after 96 or 120 hours of immersion, providing an alternative to laboratory animals for environmental pollution, drug screening, and food safety testing.
The OECD TG-236 testing method can provide the following test report content:
- Experimental results (survival rate and LC value)
- The fish embryo survival rate curves for different drug concentrations are shown in the figure below.
- The survival rate data of fish embryos at different time points for various drug concentrations can be found in the following figure.
